EV fast charging site opens in Horse Cave From Naitore Djigbenou/Allen Blair Frankfort, KY - Drivers have a new location to fast-charge their electric vehicle (EV) in Hart County. The new station in Horse Cave is made possible through Team Kentucky's EV Charging Program, which is expanding access to reliable, convenient fast charging to support long-distance EV travel. "No family or business should have to worry about where their next charge will come from. In Kentucky, they won't have to," said Gov. Andy Beshear. "We're working hard to expand our network each day and won't rest until drivers have the charging capacity that meets their needs." Love's Travel Stops was awarded $725,000 in federal funds for the Horse Cave site located at 4000 L and N Turnpike Road off Interstate 65 at Exit 58. It offers four ports capable of charging at up to 400 kilowatts each. "With the opening of our Horse Cave location, Love's now operates five EV charging sites across Kentucky, with two additional locations under construction," said Kim Okafor, director of strategic growth for Love's. "We're proud to partner with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to expand fast reliable EV charging across the state while pairing the convenience and amenities travelers expect." Stations were developed by Love's Travel Stops as part of the federally funded National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program administered by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC). NEVI funds totaling $55 million have been obligated for fast-charging stations in the state. In September 2025, Kentucky resecured $17.8 million in previously appropriated funds to build out EV charging stations after the Governor joined a lawsuit challenging the federal government over its unlawful decision to freeze funding for the NEVI program. Kentucky's EV Charging Network To date, 18 fast-charging stations are open, and 10 are under construction statewide. Additional site awards are expected soon. Stations awarded to date are along the state's interstates and parkways. Each station must have at least four charging ports, be accessible to the public 24 hours a day/seven days a week, and work with most EV models. KYTC will not develop, own, operate or maintain the charging stations. Each developer must fund at least 20% of the construction and operational costs and is required to maintain the operation of the charging station for at least five years.
