Right this way, ladies and gentlemen By Narda Tate I've often wondered about all the professions/jobs that I have never had the chance to experience in my lifetime. I have always been fascinated by all things medical, but it's hard to be a doctor without a medical degree. Also love agriculture and had a garden for many years but was never a 'real' farmer. The intricacies of a modern-day forensic scientist - to take all those little puzzle pieces and put them together to come out with a solution - how much fun would that be? So many choices! But there is one that tickles at the edge of my brain from time to time. A tour guide! To have people actually pay money and stand in line to hear what you have to say. That would be very gratifying. And I know I would have been a great tour guide, injecting just the right amount of enthusiasm - or gravitas - as the case might warrant at the appropriate time. Last year, at the beginning of July, I managed to break both of my shoulders in one gigantic, crashing fall. And as friends and family came to visit and commiserate, over and over and over, I heard the question, "How did you manage to break BOTH of your shoulders at the same time??!!" And that got me to thinking that maybe I could sell tickets and give people a tour, showing them with great passion and energy how it all happened... "Yes, ladies and gentlemen, come right through this doorway and directly ahead of you, you will see the walkway between the dining room table and the kitchen island. You will note that it is a wide area with plenty of room for walking. HOWEVER! Ms. Narda also had decided that it would be a good place to store 2 half bushel boxes of peaches that she was planning to can right away. You see, she had bought 2 bushels and had already worked her way through the first two boxes. Her loving and safety-conscious husband had suggested putting the boxes on the island, out of the walkway, but Ms. Narda just knew she would have those peaches in jars and out of the way before they could ever become a problem. Yes, sir! That was her plan. But on that fateful night, precisely at 10:30 PM, Ms. Narda had finished the last of the first bushel of peaches and was really exhausted. Her hubby was in the bedroom, down at the end of the hall that you will see right in front of you. He had the light on and Ms. Narda had her focus on that light, already feeling the delightful comfort of climbing into bed. Hurrying towards her goal, Ms. Narda TRIPPED AND FELL over the other boxes of peaches. She tried her very best to regain her balance and if you will just step forward about 8 feet, you will notice this wall just to the right of the hallway - Uh, excuse me sir, please don't touch that. All objects are just for decorative purposes only. Thank you SO MUCH for your cooperation! *flash a huge smile in his direction* And this wall is exactly where she hit with her arms outstretched and such force that BOTH shoulders were broken at the same time. *very serious expression required at this time* And now ladies and gentlemen, if you will come down the hallway with me, on your left you will see the ER room where the doctor on duty delivered the diagnosis to Ms. Narda. He said he didn't know how he could send her home with TWO broken shoulders but our sweet Narda stated, nay - she INSISTED on staying in the hospital rather than going home as she knew that stronger pain meds were available there. And so she stayed overnight in the hospital but was discharged the next day. Now if you will kindly turn around and look directly behind you, you will see the kitchen where . . . . . Where reality has set in! All this time I have been standing in front of the sink, daydreaming and not a single dish has been washed. DRAT! This story was posted on 2026-07-23 19:35:43
