July City Council Meeting report

The Columbia City Council met in regular session on Monday, July 6, 2026, in City Hall, and Mayor Hoots reports the following:

At the beginning of the meeting, they recognized the local 7U and 8U teams who were in attendance at the meeting. Team member Tate Fudge led the prayer, and team member Weston Neat led the team in the Pledge of Allegiance at the beginning of the meeting.

Other actions taken at the meeting include:

  • The council voted to authorize a resolution pertaining to a six month moratorium on data centers. This was recommended by Planning and Zoning.

  • The council voted on a resolution to proceed with a resolution for application for funding through the Kentucky Economic Development Cabinet for a gas line project on Industrial Park Drive. They also approved a resolution for a Community Development Block Grant that pertains to an Economic Development Administration project on North Highway 61 that is a gas project.

  • They authorized several items for surplus and voted to take bids to retain an auction/realty firm to handle an on-line auction for the items.

  • They approved the LARP agreement for the Burkesville Loop Project. They also approved the resolution for the project.

  • They reviewed a donation request from the Breeding Area Fire Department for a surplus vehicle.

  • The council went into executive session with no action taken.

  • The Mayor noted that the Trabue House Funding was in the fiscal year state budget for 2027-2028. The funding for Rice Drive is scheduled to be released hopefully this fall.

  • The Mayor noted that the ARC project for gas extension funding on Fairground Street, and Lindsey Wilson University, has been asked to be submitted for a full application.

  • Several good comments were given on the Fourth of July fireworks the preceding weekend.
