The Center is closed on Mondays and state holidays. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR) manages, regulates, enforces and promotes responsible use of all fish and wildlife species, their habitats, public wildlife areas and waterways for the benefit of those resources and for public enjoyment. KDFWR, an agency of the Commerce Cabinet, has an economic impact to the state of $4.8 billion annually. For more information on KDFWR, visit our web site at fw.ky.gov. Editor Notes: The Salato Center is named for the late Columbia, KY physician, Dr. James C. Salato. A personal evaluation: When our grandchildren, who live in Shelbyville, KY, are given the choice of visiting the Salato Center or the Louisville Zoo, the Salato Center wins every time. The boys are almost three and almost five. The adults along with them enjoy the Salato Center almost as much as the kids do. Dr. Salato may be the only Columbian to have two public buildings named for him. The Adair County Health Department building is named for him, too. He's not the only Columbian to have a Health Department named in his honor. The Health Department Building in Whitley City, McCreary County, is named in honor of Pat Bell, Columbia's Mayor. --Ed Direct comments are not available.
