Red Cross Emergency Response class signup is underway

Deadline to register for the course is March 17 for class beginning March 22, 2006)

Sign-up for the Red Cross Emergency Response training which will be offered at Knifley Area Voluntary Fire Department starting later this month is now underway.

This training will begin on March 22, 2006 and end on April 29, 2006. The location will be announced after the class size is determined. The class will either beheld in the basement of the EMS building or at the Rescue Squad.


The class will meet on every Wednesday from 4:00-8:00 p.m.., CST, and on every Saturday from 9:00 a.m.. until 5:00 p.m., CST.

The curriculum meets and exceeds the 1995 US Department of Transportation First Responder National Standard Curriculum as well as Emergency Cardiovascular Care 2000 Guidelines. Upon completion of this course the student will be prepared to take the National Registry Exam for FREMT-FR.

Key Content areas include the following:
  • First aid for injuries and sudden illnesses

  • One and two rescuer CPR for adults, children and infants

  • Automated external defibrillation (AED)

  • Assessing vital signs, blood pressure measurement

  • Recognizing and caring for breathing emergencies

  • Using basic and supplemental oxygen breathing devices

  • Preventing disease transmission blood borne pathogens

  • Spinal injury management

  • Emergency childbirth

  • Muscle, bone and joint injuries

  • Critical incident stress debriefing

  • EMS operations

  • Special considerations for seniors and children

  • Plus much more
  • The course is geared toward anyone, including law enforcement, firefighters, ems workers, rescue squad members, safety officers, school employees, and even students must be at least 16 years of age upon completion of course for certification.
