CU to hold exhibition of Lucia Riffel's digital animations By Emily Roberts Campbellsville, KY - Campbellsville University Department of Art & Design will present a solo exhibition of Lucia Riffel's digital animations through Friday, February 3, 2023, at The Pence Chowning Art Gallery, 205 University Drive, Campbellsville, Ky. There will be an artist talk on Friday, January 27, 2023, from 6pmET to 7pmET at Campbellsville University's The Gheens Recital Hall, 210 University Drive, inside Gosser Fine Arts Center. A closing reception will be from 7pmET to 8pmET at The Pence-Chowning Art Gallery. Everyone is invited to the reception and artist talk. Riffel is an installation and animation artist based in Tallahassee, Fla., and is a National Endowment for the Arts 2022 grant recipient and has been awarded residencies at Laboratory Residency, Stay Home Gallery and Drum Machine Editions. Her otherwordly works, Nathaniel Hendrickson, Campbellsville University artist-in-resident, said "have been shown at Day & Night Projects, Urban Glass, The Wiregrass Museum and Carnation Contemporary. Riffel's animated works examine the dissociative realm of endless scrolling by creating mediative, liminal spaces and videos that act as portals between the digital and physical plans. "Grappling with the elasticity of time, these spaces oscillate between magic and monotony," she said. "My eyes are open, but the lights are off. Quiet sets in as I sit inside myself. The moment stretches and expands," Riffel said. Riffel earned her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art and Art History from the University of Minnesota, Morris, in 2015. In 2018, she received her Master of Fine Arts at Florida State University. This story was posted on 2023-01-25 07:01:28
