Golf: LWC Men Roll to victory at The Players Club Invitational

Yorktown, IN - The Lindsey Wilson men's golf team rolled to their second straight win this season after posting an 864 (289-284-291) which was an even-par mark as a team. Freshman Ivan Ninkovic took home the individual title after finishing nine-under across his three rounds and three strokes better than second place.

Ninkovic posted a 207 (70-68-69) over his three rounds and was the only competitor to finish all three of his rounds under-par or better. In his first two events as a Blue Raider, he has compiled a first and second place finish.

The native of Pula, Croatia racked up 14 birdies during his tournament while managing a 3.92 scoring average on par-4s and a 4.33 mark on par-5s. Both were the second-best marks in the field of 79 competitors.

The event was played at The Players Club, a par-72, 6,934-yard design.

Lindsey Wilson led the 14-team field with 44 birdies as their 175 pars were the second best. The Blue Raiders added a tournament-best 11-under mark on the par-5s while adding the second-best scoring average on par-3s and par-4s at 3.20 and 4.09 strokes, respectively.

Janik Hawlitzky and Sebastian Sandin finished in a tie for sixth place with 218 strokes. Hawlitzky carded rounds of 71-73-74 as Sandin faltered in the final round, dropping from second place, with scores of 71-70-77.

Rio Saigal finished in a tie for 22nd place with a 224 (80-73-71) while Alfie Yearsley carded a 227 (78-73-76) as an individual. Frederik Strand managed a 228 (77-74-77) while Ben Melander played as an individual finishing in 57th place with a 238 (80-83-75).

Host school Taylor (Ind.) claimed second place at the event scoring an 871 (291-294-286) as the Blue Raiders claimed the team title by seven strokes.

Lindsey Wilson is back on the course on Oct. 3-4 when they compete at the Music City Invite at Twelve Stones Golf Club in Nashville, TN.
