ACSO: Russell Co. man airlifted after collision with dump truck

By Sheriff Josh Brockman
Adair County Sheriff's Office

The Adair County Sheriff's Office responded to a two vehicle injury collision on Monday, June 20, 2022. Deputy Tracy McCarol received a call to respond, along with Adair County EMS and the Columbia Adair County Fire Department, to KY55 south approximately 4 miles south of Columbia to a pickup truck vs dump truck head on collision.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck operated by 28 year old Zachary Meece of Jamestown crossed the center line and struck a 1994 Ford Truck operated by 67 year old Chester Taylor of Columbia.

After the initial collision, Meece's vehicle nearly struck another vehicle operated by 35 year old Laura Keltner of Columbia. Keltner was able to avoid contact with Meece's vehicle. Meece was entrapped in his vehicle and had to be freed by mechanical means by the Adair County Fire Department. Meece was transported to TJ Health Columbia helipad and then air-lifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital.

The collision remains under investigation by Sheriff's Deputy Tracy Mccarol.
