Rev. Herbert Janes, 81, Adair Co., KY (1940-2022) Rev. Herbert Janes of the Portland Community died on Monday, June 6, 2022 at 6:23 P.M. at T.J. Health Columbia. He was 81 years old. The funeral service will be held at 10amCT on Friday, June 10, 2022, at Tarter's Chapel Church (My Father's House), 3400 Milltown Road, Columbia, with David Martin, Bro. Jimmy D. Cox and Bro. Larry Wisdom officiating. Burial will follow in Tarter's Chapel Cemetery, with full military honors presented by V.F. W. Post 6097. Visitation is requested after 4pmCT on Thursday at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, and will continue after 8amCT on Friday at the Church. He was born July 28, 1940, in Adair County, to the late Galeon and Sallie Keltner Janes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Nicholas Janes, four brothers, Lewis, Bill, Johnnie and Norman Janes and four sisters, Ruth Burris, Ernestine Kemp, Freida Smith and Sue Cundiff. Rev. Janes was a retired United Methodist Minister, having Pastored and held Revivals in Adair and surrounding counties for over 43 years, a U.S. Army Veteran, a former heavy equipment operator and recently operated Poor Man's Store in Portland.
