LWC International Student Program thanks local host families

By Anna Peterson

On Sunday, April 10, 2022, the LWC International Student Program was thrilled to host their annual Host Family Appreciation event. This event is extremely important to the ISP Team, as the event is a time to give back to the families that do so much for the students and it was especially wonderful this year after such a long time of separation. After two years of COVID hindering the ability to meet, nearly 90 students and Host Families gathered on campus once again!

The impact that Host Families have on a student's experience at LWC was made obvious when over 25 students filed onto the stage to perform a song, Love Grows Where Our Host Families Go (a parody of Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes) .The students also took some time to pass around a microphone and express how much their Host Families impacted them before passing out roses to each family as yet another sign of gratitude.

"Host Families offer both on and off-campus support for the students," says Director of International Student Programs, Sabine Eastham. "They offer their hearts and homes graciously and without hesitation." While Host Families do not house international students, they agree to have regular contact with the students throughout the school year. Their role was especially important during the difficult and isolating times of the pandemic. "The Host Families love freely and go above and beyond expectations, each and every day," says Eastham. ISP is eternally grateful for all they do for their students. This event and the expressions of gratitude from the students and ISP proved that the words that the students sang are true: "Love Grows Where Our Host Families Go."
