Basketball: LWC men take on the Bears this weekend

The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team continues their season on Saturday when they take on Shawnee State (OH) on the road. Tipoff is scheduled for 3pmCT.

The Blue Raiders (8-9, 1-8 MSC) enter the match after losing to No. 10 Thomas More (Ky.) 77-87 last night. Calvin Fugett led the Blue Raiders with 17 points in the loss.


Junior guard Elijah Jordan continues to lead the team in points per game averaging 14.7, the ninth-best in the conference while also shooting 59.5 percent from beyond the arc, the highest percentage from the three-point line in the conference and second-best in the NAIA.

Sophomore guard Mark Edmond continues to lead the team in rebounds per game averaging 7.6 so far this season ranking fourth in the conference. As a team, the Blue Raiders are averaging 75.2 points per game and are shooting 46.1 percent from the floor.

As for the Bears (9-9, 3-8 MSC), they enter the match on a two-game losing streak after dropping matches against No. 17 Georgetown (Ky.) and Cumberland (Tenn.) this week.

The Bears are led by senior guard Miles Thomas who leads the team in PPG averaging 14.9, the eighth highest PPG average in the conference. Freshman forward Latavious Mitchell leads the side in RPG as he averages 6.7 boards per game, the eighth highest in the conference.

As a team, the Patriots are averaging 72.8 points per game and are shooting 42.7 percent from the floor.

The Bears won the earlier match against the Blue Raiders this season 67-63 on December 2, 2021 and have won the last three meetings between the two programs. The Blue Raiders last win in Portsmouth came on February 8, 2020 in an 80-75 victory.
