Soccer: LWC Women face Georgia Gwinnett in NAIA opener

The No. 2-seed Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team battles No. 3-seed Georgia Gwinnett in the NAIA Championship Opening Round on Thursday, November 18, 2021. Kickoff is slated for 4pmCT in Indianapolis, IN.

In their last outing, the Blue Raiders (12-4, 10-1 MSC) fell 2-0 against Cumberlands (KY) in the Mid-South Conference semifinals.


Rayssa Neres Gomes De Souza leads the Blue Raiders with 15 goals scored through 16 games. Emma Lindell has recorded a career-high 11 assists this season while goalkeeper Maya Caon has recorded 83 saves with a .798 save percentage. As a team, Lindsey Wilson has outscored foes 60-21 this season.

As for the Grizzlies (11-6-1), they enter the match after defeating Bellevue (NE) 3-0 to claim their fifth straight Continental Athletic Conference tournament championship.

The duo of Addie Adame and Joy Mertzig lead the Grizzlies in scoring with 11 goals each. Adame, Mertzig, and Kyara Armenta lead the team in assists with four apiece and goalkeeper Matilda Johansson has recorded 43 saves and two shutouts.

This will be the seventh all-time meeting between these two teams as the series record is tied 3-3. These two teams faced each other earlier this season as Lindsey Wilson fell to the Grizzlies 2-0 on Sept. 18, 2021.
