Soccer: LWC Women to take on no. 18 Cumberland

The No. 11-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team looks to return to their winning ways as they battle No. 18 Cumberland (TN) on Sunday at NoonCT at Lindsey Donnell Stadium.

The Blue Raiders (9-3, 8-1 MSC) dropped their last match 7-2 to No. 3 Tennessee Southern for their first loss in Mid-South Conference play. Yudaya Nakayenze and Emma Lindell scored goals for Lindsey Wilson in the first half, however, it was not enough as the Firehawks scored the next seven goals.


Rayssa Neres Gomes De Souza leads the Blue Raiders in scoring with 12 goals on the year. Assist-wise, Lindell has recorded a team-leading nine while goalkeeper Maya Caon has 58 saves this season with a shutout under her belt. As a team, the Blue Raiders are outscoring opponents 49-17.

As for the Phoenix (11-2-1, 7-1-1 MSC), they are entering the match after a 3-2 loss to No. 13 Campbellsville University. Cumberland gave up three second-half goals en route to their first conference loss.

As a team, Cumberland is ranked second in the NAIA in shots this season with 395 and third in assists with 67. Marie Bathe is fifth in the NAIA for most assists with 13. Scoring-wise, Haley Stevens holds the top spot with 10 goals and goalkeeper Sabrina Graziano has recorded three shutouts this season.

This will be the 26th meeting between these two programs. Lindsey Wilson leads the all-time record 21-5 while having a 5-1 record in Lebanon, TN. The last meeting resulted in a 1-0 victory for the Blue Raiders on March 23, 2021.
