Football: LWC prepares for Top-25 showdown

The No. 1-ranked Lindsey Wilson football team suites up for a top-25 match against No. 13 Georgetown (KY) on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is slated for 1:30pmCT at Parnell Family Stadium.

The Blue Raiders (5-0, 2-0 MSC) enter the game after the fourth shutout in program history, defeating Thomas More (KY) 47-0.


Lindsey Wilson's offense recorded a season-high 544 yards, 374 yards through the air, and 170 yards on the ground. Cameron Dukes tallied his season-high in passing yards with 365 along with a pair of touchdowns. Dukes was named Mid-South Conference Football Bluegrass Division Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Saints.

Jaylen Boyd also received weekly honors as he was named MSC Football Bluegrass Division Special Teams Player of the Week. At the start of the third quarter, Boyd returned a kickoff from five yards deep in his own endzone for a 100-yard touchdown to extend the Blue Raider's lead. The touchdown is the longest in the program's history.

Defensively, Peyton Doles led the Blue Raiders with six tackles. Luke Bowman recorded two tackles, one for a loss, and an interception. As a unit, Lindsey Wilson's defense totaled seven tackles for a loss.

Georgetown (4-1, 1-1 MSC) is coming off a tight 25-24 loss against Bethel (Tenn.). The Tigers were outscored 18-8 in the fourth quarter as they dropped their first game of the season.

Senior quarterback Brandon Burgess is the leader of the Tiger's offense, recording 1,178 passing yards and 11 touchdowns this season. On the ground, Isaiah Cobb totals a team-high 209 yards along with four touchdowns. Senior wide receivers Darius Barbour and Aaron Maggard are tied in receiving yards for the Tigers with 221 each.

On the defensive, Georgetown has recorded 328 total tackles this season. The unit is fronted by Chad Holleran with a team-high 33 total tackles, a fumble recovery, and an interception. Defensive back Rob Sheffield leads the Tigers in interceptions with three.

This matchup is the 11th time these two programs have faced each other. Lindsey Wilson leads the all-time series 7-4. In the most recent game, the Blue Raiders defeated the Tigers 35-14 as Dukes recorded 241 passing yards in the victory.
