COVID-19 update: area moving toward normal Governor Andy Beshear announced that Friday was the last daily report as COVID-19 numbers continue to improve in the state. Our district health department reports that daily reports will be discontinued and only weekly updates will now be done on the ten-counties. By Amy Tomlinson - Lake Cumberland District Health Department Going forward, we will move exclusively to a weekly report format and discontinue the daily reports. The weekly summary will either be posted on Friday evening or sometime over the weekend. Statewide Testing Positivity Rate: 2.05%. Deaths: We are sad to report 1 new death today (Friday, June 11, 2021). We have experienced a total of 454 deaths resulting in a 2.01% mortality rate (about 1 in 50) among known cases. This compares with a 1.55% mortality rate at the state level and a 1.79% mortality rate at the national level. Our hearts and prayers go out to all the families and friends who have lost loved ones. Hospitalizations: We presently have 6 cases in the hospital. This is 3 less than what we reported yesterday. We have had a total of 1,269 hospitalizations resulting in a 5.61% hospitalization rate (about 1 in 18) among known cases. The state hospitalization rate is 5.06%. The latest data shows that 88.89% of Lake Cumberland's ICU beds are filled, and 25.4% of ventilator capacity is being utilized. Total (Cumulative) Cases: The Lake Cumberland District has experienced a total of 22,627 cases since the onset of the outbreak. This means that 10.83% of our total population has been a confirmed case. However, we do not know how many additional people may have had COVID-19 and were either asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic and never tested. Of our total cases, 0.53% are reinfections, and 1.69% contracted the virus after having received at least 1 dose of the vaccine. Released (Not contagious) Cases: We released 18 cases today from isolation. Released cases include: Adair: 6; Casey: 2; Clinton: 1; Green: 3; McCreary: 1; Pulaski: 9; Taylor: -5; and, Wayne: 1. In all, we have released 97.7% of our total cases. Active (Current) Cases: Taking into account deaths and releases, our active cases decreased by 19 more than the new cases we added today. This leaves us with 69 active cases in our district across all 10 of our district's 10 counties. On 12/10/2020 we were at our peak number of active cases, 1,334. Where Did Cases Visit Prior to Isolation: The most common places cases visited prior to isolation are (in descending order): Family, Businesses, Medical Facilities, and Schools. Of our active cases, 6% can not be tied back to another known case (community-spread cases). New Cases: We report that our total case count has increased by 0 today because we added 10 new cases, but converted 10 historic cases to suspect. Our new cases are as follows: Casey: A 47-year-old female who is self-isolated, still symptomatic; Cumberland: A 26-year-old female who is self-isolated, still symptomatic; Pulaski: A 35-year-old male who is self-isolated, still symptomatic; Pulaski: A 51-year-old female who is self-isolated, still symptomatic; Pulaski: A 55-year-old female who is self-isolated, still symptomatic; Russell: A 72-year-old male who is self-isolated, Asymptomatic; Taylor: A 31-year-old female who is self-isolated, still symptomatic; Taylor: A 34-year-old male who is released, Resolved; Taylor: A 64-year-old male who is self-isolated, still symptomatic; Taylor: A 73-year-old female who is self-isolated, still symptomatic; A close look at our numbers today may appear that Taylor's numbers are off. This is because we converted 10 historic cases to "suspect" cases. The death we report today is a 65-year-old individual from Casey who had been hospitalized. We added 74 new cases this week compared to 76 new cases the week prior. We have 69 active cases today compared to 75 last Friday. We have 6 hospitalized cases today compared to 10 last Friday. We experienced 1 COVID-19 related death this week. Our 7-day-average incidence rate of new cases per 100,000 is 5.05 today compared to 5.19 last Friday.
