LWC Softball sweeps Shawnee State Wednesday

The No. 3 Lindsey Wilson softball team completed a doubleheader sweep over Shawnee State (Ohio) on Wednesday afternoon at Marilyn D. Sparks Park, going a perfect 4-0 over the Bears in two days of action.



Game one (five innings): Lindsey Wilson - 20 | Shawnee State - 0
The Blue Raiders crushed the ball around the field in game one, producing 15 hits in the 20-run contest.

LWC was led from the plate by the trio of Mikayla Marquez, Brianna Griffiths, and Desiree Chang, all of whom garnered two hits apiece. Lyric Houston guided the RBI total with four thanks to a grand slam, while Marquez, Griffiths, and Alexus Garza all added three each to the RBI team total. Overall, 12 Lindsey Wilson batters recorded at least one hit while 10 corralled at least one RBI.

Annabelle Ramirez earned the start and the win from the circle, throwing 3.0 innings where she allowed just two hits while striking out five batters. Payten Gregory and Kaylee Covey each pitched 1.0 inning of work and each recorded one strikeout.

Game two: Lindsey Wilson - 10 | Shawnee State - 4
Lindsey Wilson scored seven unanswered runs in the first two innings of action to easily control game two of the series against Shawnee State. LWC produced 13 hits from the plate while allowing 10 to SSU.

Carissa Summers led the team on offense with three hits, while Marquez, Chang, Houston, and Makea-Al Kaluau all added two each. Kaluau produced a team-high four RBIs off a grand slam in the second inning, while five other Blue Raiders had at least one RBI to their name.

From the circle, Hannah Epperson earned the start and received the win after going 4.0 innings of work while allowing seven hits, four earned runs, three strikeouts, and one walk. Breanna Clark pitched 2.0 innings, allowing three hits while walking one batter, while Emalee McCord finished the game off in the eventual win.

The No. 3 Lindsey Wilson softball team will return to action on Friday to hit the road to battle Thomas More (Ky.) beginning at 1 p.m. CT.
