By Mayor Pamela Hoots

Month of February, 2021

Again, this has been a hectic month for the city. We have been very busy with the inclement weather that hit our community during the month. We want to recognize Tim Smith and Jackie Chapman for their work; and, continuing to provide for our residents. Also, Craig Lasley and Terry Johnson for assisting with them.

We have cleaned our several tiles during the month.

We are continuing to furnish the Lake Cumberland Area Development District with information concerning grant applications for the city.

We did a proclamation for the local family resource centers. We appreciate their work in our community. Also, a check was presented to them for the "Baby It's Cold Outside," coat drive.

We did a proclamation in recognition of CMV Week in honor of Bella Streeval; and, in acknowledge of Bella's Law being introduced in the Kentucky State Legislature by State Senator Max Wise.

The Columbia Planning and Zoning had a meeting for approval for design plans for the new Kentucky Fried Chicken coming to Columbia. The KFC will be located off of Dohoney Trace.

We wish Sam Scharbrough the best as he goes to a Walmart in Bowling Green. He was at our local Walmart around four years.

Moxie Jay's Salon opened on Jamestown Street this month. They had an open house.

The Agape House held a diaper drive-through. Approximately 500 diapers were distributed.

The City of Columbia presented balloons and stuffed animals to the residents at the nursing home. Sixty-five (65) were taken to the home by the mayor, city police, council member, representative of gas department and representative of parks and recreation. The balloons were sponsored by the mayor.

The reminders for the 2019 and 2020 delinquent property taxes were sent out the week of February 15. The letters were a reminder that there would be another fifteen days to pay before they would be published.

Caly was formally introduced as our newest K9 unit for the City of Columbia. She will be working with City Officer Trevor Foster. Caly is sponsored by: Stacey Hatcher Bishop. We appreciate her for her continued support of our police department.

We had a followup meeting with USDA representation concerning three applications: police drug vehicle, gas line extension to Milltown Church Road, and maintenance building.

Around forty light bulbs were replaced in city hall and the police department by Parks and Recreation.

We got a floor machine during the month. Craig and Terry are in process of buffing all floors in city hall, gas office, and police department.

Terry and Craig put a Plexiglas partition around the entrance desk at city hall.

Cookout Restaurant has indicated they still plan on starting in spring.
