FEMA grant to Campbellsville COVID-19 Supplemental By Chris Taylor, Chief, Campbellsville Fire-Rescue On Friday February 19th Campbellsville Fire Rescue received notification from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that our 2020 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) COVID-19 Supplemental grant application had been approved and would receive funding in the amount of $2,191.75. With this award the department will be able to purchase or reimburse items related to prevent, prepare for and respond to coronavirus. We will be purchasing medical exam gloves, reusable elastomeric respirators, barrier isolation gowns, eye protection, disposable face mask and twin P100 filters. This is the second time in 6 months that we have been fortunate to receive funding from this federal program. In the first round we were reimbursed for air purifying respirators that are compatible with our self contained breathing apparatus face pieces. The total for both grant awards is $4,791.75. This equipment will be essential to keep protecting our first responders protected from this virus. We routinely assist our emergency medical services partners with on scene assist and even respond medic units when headquarters is not covered. For the year 2020 Campbellsville Fire-Rescue has responded to 13 emergency runs where COVID was suspected, 8 emergency runs where COVID was confirmed, 602 runs that COVID was not a factor and 392 runs where it was unknown exposure. Taylor County has had 2,660 total cases of COVID-19 and the county is still in the critical red zone for community spread. Campbellsville Fire-Rescue would like to thank 1st District Congressman James Comer for his support of this vital Federal grant program. We would also like to thank the full/part time staff and volunteer firefighters that serve this community daily. This equipment will have a positive impact on their health and safety.
