LWC Softball set for season opener at Union By Brady Budke With recent adjustments in the schedule, the No. 3 Lindsey Wilson softball team is finally ready to open the 2021 season on Sunday. The team will travel to Union (KY) to play a doubleheader at Union Field, with the first game beginning at NoonCT. Live video and live stats will be available for the doubleheader. According to the Union Fan Attendance Policy, no fans will be allowed to attend these games. Please view the policy for more information. Last season, LWC grabbed a pair of victories in a doubleheader against the Bulldogs at Marilyn D. Sparks Park. These games were the last of the shortened 2020 softball season for the Blue Raiders. Union (3-1) enters tomorrow having not played a game since February 6th. The Bulldogs have produced 34 runs on offense while allowing just 18 in return. Abby Wall has been the most productive pitcher from the center circle this season, producing team-highs of 15.1 innings pitched and 21 strikeouts. From the plate, Sarah Lowe and Ariel Dailey have each notched a team-best eight hits. A strong returning core alongside a combination of new faces earned Lindsey Wilson the No. 3 ranking in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Preseason Poll. The Blue Raiders return the powerful pitching duo of Annabelle Ramirez and Hannah Epperson. In the 13-game shortened season a year ago, Epperson garnered 27 strikeouts along with two shutout victories in just five appearances. Ramirez added 24 strikeouts in just three appearances. Batting for LWC will also feature the valuable pair of Sam Sims and Makea-Al Kaluau. Each player led the team last season producing 17 hits apiece, with Sims earning the top batting average on the team (.459) while Kaluau carried the most home runs (eight) and RBI's (22).
