By Brett Reliford

The Adair County High School Academic Team continue with its history of success on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at the Governor's Cup 16th District Championships. Adair was the sole team in which every competitor that was part of the competition earned a right to compete at the Regional Championship. Each competitor took that honor by being part of one of the championship teams that advanced or by earning an individual medal in the written assessment competitions.

The Future Problem Solving Team won overall honors, completing a challenging booklet on the future of Wearable Technology. The team members competing were Amber Loy, Sadie Kemp, Abby Claywell, and Caylin Coffman. The Quick Recall team advanced to Region as well with a runner-up finish. Team members competing in Quick Recall were Hayden Hancock, Amber Loy, Alannah Bowman, Brody Blair, Ronan Flaherty, Evan Smith, and Caylin Coffman.

The team racked up several individual awards in their impressive District finish as well.

Alannah Bowman took home 1st Place in Language Arts and 2nd Place in Arts and Humanities with two of the highest scores across the Region in both events. Hayden Hancock also placed in Arts and Humanities with his teammate, as Hancock grabbed 4th in the event. Hancock also competed in Social Studies, qualifying for Region with a 3rd Place finish. In addition, Ronan Flaherty joined Bowman in the Language Arts medal ceremony by earning 5th Place.

Sadie Kemp brought home another 1st Place finish for Adair in the Composition event. Along with her in advancing to the Regional Championships was Amber Loy, who earned 4th Place with her Composition entry.

Adair also had two top 5 finishes in the each of the Math and Science events. Timothy Archey became a double medalist by finishing 3rd in the Math competition and 5th in the Science competition. Evan Smith also qualified for Region with his 5th Place finish in Math alongside teammate Archey.
