Three Blue Raiders named to 2021 MSC Sotball Preseason Watch List

By Christopher Coombs

Makea Al Kaluau, Annabelle Ramirez and Hannah Epperson were named to the inaugural 2021 Mid-South Conference Softball Preseason Watch List, officials at the conference office announced on Tuesday.

The list showcases some of the top talent in the MSC for this coming season. Coaches were allowed to submit up to three student-athletes from their team to be mentioned on the list for the upcoming season. A total of 30 student-athletes from 11 programs were mentioned on the list.

In an abbreviated 2020 season, Kaluau, Ramirez and Epperson were primed to continue leading the Blue Raiders. This season the upperclassmen once again look to guide Lindsey Wilson back to the NAIA National Tournament for the second time in their careers and the seventh time in program history.

Kaluau started all 13 games last season and registering 22 RBI's, eight home runs and tied for a team-lead with 17 hits. She was an NAIA Second Team All-American and an MSC First Team selection in 2019.

Ramirez made four starts in the circle last season where she picked up two wins and a 2.80 ERA while notching 24 strikeouts. Across her career, she has managed 35 wins and been named an NAIA Second Team All-American as well as a two time MSC First-Team selection.

Epperson made four starts last season, where she picked up three wins and a 1.78 ERA to go along with a team-high 27 strikeouts. For her career, she has managed 24 wins and just two losses in 157.3 innings pitched. During the 2019 campaign, she earned Second Team All-MSC honors.

The Blue Raiders kick off their season on Friday, Feb. 12, when they welcome No. 22 Saint Xavier and No. 14 Olivet Nazarene to Marilyn D. Sparks Park for a double-header.
