LWC Women's basketball wins thriller against Cumberlands By Christopher Coombs The No. 17-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team battled their way to a 64-61 victory over (RV) Cumberlands in Mid-South Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Biggers Sports Center. In a game that featured nine lead changes and six ties, Lindsey Wilson was able to pull through in the final quarter to move to 11-1 overall and 6-1 in the MSC. The Blue Raiders never trailed by more than four points in the contest. Jordyn Stephens had a career afternoon, dropping 21 points while putting the game away with a perfect 4-for-4 mark from the charity stripe late in the action. Cumberlands (11-3, 7-3 MSC) took their largest lead of the game at four points with 8:22 to play in the third quarter. From there the Blue Raiders chipped away, ultimately taking a five-point lead -- 51-46 -- into the final stanza. Stephens pushed the LWC advantage to their largest of the afternoon after knocking down back-to-back jumpers to open play in the fourth. The Patriots didn't concede, battling their way back to trail by just one point with two minutes to play. The Blue Raider defense locked in, holding Cumberlands to a 1-of-5 mark from the field and two turnovers in the waning minutes of the game. The Patriots knocked down a three with 5 seconds to play but LWC managed to run out the remaining time on the clock for a 64-61 win. For the game, the Blue Raiders shot 41.8 percent and limited the Patriots to a 31.5 mark from the field. Maleigha Oldham finished with 15 points as Hailey Ison added 12 points and five boards. Bree Glover once again reached double-digit rebounds with 10 to go along with seven points. The first half was evenly contested as LWC and UC were deadlocked at 33 heading into the locker room. Lindsey Wilson took the largest lead of the half at eight points with 2:04 to play in the first. Lindsey Wilson was efficient from the floor shooting at 44.8 percent while limiting the Patriots to a 37.1 mark. Oldham led the offensive effort in the half with 11 points. Cumberlands bench produced 15 points as they outrebounded the Blue Raiders 24-16.
