Blue Raiders to host Pikeville in MSC double-header

By Joel Snyder

It's been two weeks since the Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team took the floor. Now, after seeing their last five games postponed due to complications with COVID-19, the Blue Raider women will tip-off a double-header with Mid-South rival Pikeville (KY) at 4pmCT, followed by the men's contest at 6:30pmCT today, January 14, 2021, at Biggers Sports Center, 360 Spickard Drive, Columbia, KY Live stats and video will be available.

Pikeville (9-4, 5-4 MSC) is amid its third three-game winning streak of the season after defeating Life (GA) 93-85 in Marietta on Monday.

Brianna Burbridge and Morgan Stamper are the definition of double-trouble for the Bears. The duo has started all 13 games boasting an impressive resume on the stat sheets. Burbridge averages a double-double with 15.9 points per game and 10.6 rebounds per outing, to lead the MSC. Right behind her is Stamper, whose 9.1 boards per game is second-best in the MSC. As a team, the Bears have allowed a conference-low 31.3 rebounds per game while grabbing a Mid-South best 15.6 offensive rebounds per contest.

Despite the two-week lay-off, Lindsey Wilson climbed two spots in the latest NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll to No. 17. The Blue Raiders (9-1, 4-1 MSC) are riding a five-game winning streak after knocking off Georgetown (KY) 72-50 back on New Year's Eve.

Reagan Turner leads the Blue Raiders, sporting a team-best 22.0 points per game (17th in NAIA) while shooting an efficient 52.1 percent from the field (46th in NAIA), and leading the squad with 18 total steals. Freshman Sydnie Hall is tied for the conference lead in 3-pointers made per game (3.0), and Bree Glover controls the glass for Lindsey Wilson, pulling down a team-high 56 total boards and blocking a team-best 18 shots.

The men's contest features two sides both searching for a tally in the win column.

Pikeville (5-7, 3-6 MSC) is on the road after dropping back-to-back games on their home floor.

Four different Bears are scoring in double-figures, including Malcolm Green, whose 15.0 points per game ranks inside the top 20 in the MSC. Additionally, Green has floored more minutes for Pikeville than any other on the roster, leading to team-high marks in total assists (22) and field goal percentage (58.6). Christian Sweazie is at the head of the bear pack with a conference-best 58.5 3-point field goal percentage (15th in NAIA).

The Blue Raiders (3-8, 1-7 MSC) are working on their second game of a three-game homestand when they welcome the Bears to the Biggers Sports Center.

Elijah Jordan paces the Blue Raiders' offense with 15.4 points per game. The junior is aided in scoring by senior Colen Gaynor (12.2ppg) and Payton Cundiff (11.7ppg). Gaynor has notched four double-doubles during the current campaign, including 18 points and 10 rebounds at Martin Methodist (TN) on Jan. 7. Cundiff, on the other hand, ranks fourth in the Mid-South in total 3-point field goals (31) and 3-point field goal percentage (44.3).

In the all-time series with Pikeville, the Blue Raiders lead on the women's side 52-18, while the Lindsey Wilson men hold a 39-34 series advantage.
