Poetry by Robert Stone: If you choose whole truth

A word list sonnet for Poetry in the Boro
All storytellers make words effervesce
in anecdotal corkscrew dancing webs,
strands woven in abundance never less
than sand on shore revealed when water ebbs.

A menos que quieras do not tell
the rougher, meaner parts of history,
but if you choose whole truth then speak it well
so silken threads that bind are plain to see.

Repeated executions of worn plans
that were successful many times before
are but one half of life’s cannots and cans
so seek the weak the less, the strong the more.

Your comfort comes from hearing well-loved tales
remembering old comforts with details.
