LWC Basketball to host Freed-Hardeman and Shawnee

By Brady Budke

After a few recent schedule adjustments, the Lindsey Wilson men's and women's basketball teams remain ready to continue Mid-South Conference play on Saturday at Biggers Sports Center. The women's team will begin the day facing (RV) Freed-Hardeman (TN) at 1:30pmCT, followed by the men's team battling (RV) Shawnee State (OH) at 4pmCT.

Freed-Hardeman (5-3, 0-3 MSC) has dropped three straight contests, recently falling to Bethel (TN) by a close final of 60-57 on Thursday night.

The Lady Lions are led in scoring by Alyssa LeMay, who is averaging 16 points per game. LeMay also holds the team-high of 8.8 rebounds per game. Caroline Chambers (12.2 PPG and 7.8 RPG) and KJ White (11.4 PPG and 4.2 assists per game) also provide a strong floor presence. FHU is averaging 72.6 PPG while holding opponents to just 58.4 PPG.

As for Lindsey Wilson (7-1, 2-1 MSC), the team picked up an MSC win over Cumberland (TN) on the road Thursday night by a final of 84-69.

Reagan Turner leads the Blue Raiders at 21.1 PPG, 2.6 APG, and 1.6 steals per game. Turner is closing in on the 2,000 career point mark entering the contest with the Lady Lions (currently at 1,987 career points). Bree Glover continues to have a strong season for LWC as well, where she holds team-highs of 8.8 RPG and 1.8 blocks per game. Lindsey Wilson looks to stop Freed-Hardeman from picking up its first ever MSC women's basketball victory.

Moving over to the men's matchup, Shawnee State (4-2, 1-1 MSC) has dropped two straight games, recently falling to Cumberland by a final of 68-57 on Thursday night on the road.

The Bears are anchored on defense by EJ Onu, who is one of the top shot blockers in the NAIA once again. Onu is averaging a staggering four BPG while picking up his 400th career block in the loss to the Phoenix. On offense, James Jones leads SSU at 20.6 points and four assists per contest. Shawnee State is allowing opponents to shoot just 37.5 percent on offense, which is the lowest in the MSC.

Lindsey Wilson (3-2, 1-1 MSC) enters its matchup with Shawnee State after upsetting No. 18 Dalton State (Ga.) last Saturday by a final of 81-78 at Biggers Sports Center.

Elijah Jordan leads the offensive charge for LWC, averaging 16.6 PPG. He also holds a team-high of two SPG on defense. Colen Gaynor leads the Blue Raiders on the glass at 8.6 RPG. In the last outing against Dalton State, Gaynor scored 26 points and pulled in nine rebounds while notching the game winning put-back with just seconds remaining.

Live video and live stats will be available for these games. Please view the LWC Attendance Protocols for more information.
