LWC opens conference play tonight at Freed-Hardeman

The Lindsey Wilson men's and women's basketball teams are set to open Mid-South Conference play tonight, traveling to Freed-Hardeman (TN) to face off against the Lions in Henderson, TN. The women's game is set to begin at 5pmCT, while the men's matchup will follow at 7:30pmCT.



In the women's matchup, (RV) Freed-Hardeman (5-0) returns to action riding high momentum after dominating No. 19 Talladega (AL) by a final of 98-56 on Tuesday night. The Lady Lions produced three 20 or more point scorers in the game (Alyssa LeMay at 29 points, Reagen Floyd at 23 points, and KJ White at 20 points), while shooting 56.1 percent from the field as a team (32-of-57).

FHU is guided on the floor by LeMay, who is averaging team-highs of 18.8 points and 8.4 rebounds per contest. She also leads her squad shooting the deep ball with 13 made 3-pointers this season. Freed-Hardeman has won its games by a convincing average of 27.8 points in the early going.

The (RV) Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team (3-0) steps on Smith-Kirk Court tonight led in scoring by Reagan Turner, who also leads the MSC at 25.6 PPG. Behind Turner, three other players are averaging double-figures (Sydnie Hall at 14 PPG, Rose Mary Jackson at 11.3 PPG, and Maleigha Oldham at 11 PPG), helping the team successfully out-score opponents by an average of 29 points this season.

In the paint, Jackson and Bree Glover are controlling the glass for LWC. Glover has registered a team-high 9.0 RPG while Jackson sits right behind at 8.7 RPG. Lindsey Wilson is out-rebounding opponents by 19 per contest, which ranks fourth in the NAIA.

Moving over to the men's matchup, Freed-Hardeman (3-0) opens conference play led by Wanya King, who has tallied a team-high of 16.7 PPG. John Musselwhite has been a force on the floor for the Lions, averaging a double-double at 15 PPG and 11.3 RPG.

FHU is headlined by a strong defensive presence alongside an unfailing effort at shooting the 3-point shot. The team is holding opponents to just 33.8 percent shooting from the field (68-of-201), which ranks fourth in the NAIA. On offense, the squad is averaging 15.3 made 3-pointers per game, which ranks second in the NAIA (46-of-117 for the season).

For Lindsey Wilson (1-1), three players have notched a double-figure scoring average (Elijah Jordan at 15.5 PPG, Payton Cundiff at 14 PPG, and Giir Ring at 12 PPG), with Jordan entering tonight after a strong 25-point outing on 11-of-16 shooting in the last contest against Williams Baptist (Ark.).

LWC has favorably out-rebounded its opponents in the early season by five per contest. Colen Gaynor leads the way averaging 11 RPG, while Ring has lended a helping hand at 7.5 RPG himself.
