LWC Men gear up for RedHawk Classic Friday & Saturday By Brady Budke A new season officially begins tonight for the Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team, which is set to play in the RedHawk Classic Friday & Saturday in Pulaski, Tennessee at the Robert E. Curry Christian Life Center on the campus of Martin Methodist (TN). The Blue Raiders will face off against Philander Smith (AR) tonight at 5:30pmCT in the season opener before concluding the classic by taking on Williams Baptist (AR) at 2pmCT on Saturday. Live video & live stats will be available from the Robert E. Curry Christian Life Center. Martin Methodist is currently not allowing fans of visiting teams on campus at this time. Philander Smith (0-1) enters the RedHawk Classic after more than two weeks away from competitive action. On Oct. 29, the Panthers fell in a road contest against No. 6 LSU Shreveport (La.) by a final of 94-71. In the season opening loss, Dejalin Austin carried a heavy workload against the Pilots for PSC. The senior guard corralled 23 points which included going 15-of-18 from the free throw line. Austin also added five rebounds, three assists, & three steals to his total. Evan Council was the only other Panther that scored in double-figures, notching 10 points. Philander Smith managed to shoot just 39.3 percent from the field (24-of-61), but successfully held LSU Shreveport to a lower percentage shooting at 38.9 percent (28-of-72). Williams Baptist (2-0) has secured two quick victories right out of the gate to begin its season on a high note. The Eagles defeated Baptist Bible (Mo.) by a final of 84-63 on Nov. 7 & Crowley's Ridge (AR) 62-58 on Nov. 10. WBU has seen consistent production spread throughout the roster so far. Four different Eagles average double-digit points, while two average a double-double. The duo of Brian Davis & Shackeel Butters has been a force on the boards this season, leading their team to out-rebound opponents by an average of 16.5 per contest. Davis sits at 14.5 boards per game alongside a 13 points per game average, while Butters also averages 14.5 RPG while notching an 11.5 PPG average. Davis & Butters eached pulled in their season-highs of 18 rebounds in the win over Crowley's Ridge. As for Lindsey Wilson, the Blue Raiders welcome a mix of new & experienced players to the 2020-21 campaign. Tonight will kickstart the beginning of the head coaching journey for Chris Starks, who takes over the program after spending 18 years as an assistant.
