Letter: Is the old Toll Gate House still standing? Larry Mansfield writes: On 07-26-2013 you published a photo by Larry Smith of a sign at the Toll Gate House at 327 Tebbs Bend Road, Campbellsville. I'm wondering if you know if the toll gate and house is still standing? I have ancestors and relatives who were supposed to have operated the toll gate in the 1800's. If it's still there I'd like to visit the site. Thank you.Comments re: Scenic Taylor Co., KY: Toll Gate House at Green River Larry, thanks for writing. Billy Joe Fudge tells us that the house is still standing. Suzanne Ince lives in it and serves as a keeper of sorts for it and the Toll House entrance to the Tebbs Bend Nature and Recreation Area Trail System. Larry Smith has added another historical photo, and adds that "The Toll Gate and Toll House was the main road to Columbia in the old days and, because it ran through people's property, they charged a fee to help maintain the road and bridges. There were at least 3 tolls between Campbellsville and Columbia."
