Letter: Montpelier house has rich history

Tamara L Andrew writes:
Linda, this old house belonged to my husbands family on his mother's side and now to him. It was used during the civil war to house slaves and is separated into two halves upstairs with one entrance being in the front door and the other entrance being in the back door. You could not access each half from upstairs. You had to walk past the downstairs bedrooms to get to the stairs either way. The women were kept in one half and the men in the other half. There was a secret room upstairs also to hide them if need be.

Granny's been gone for 10 years now and the old house is falling apart but still a really cool place to me. --Tamara
