LWC Women's Basketball set for Season Opener Saturday

By Brady Budke

The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team is set to hit the court for the first time in 2020-21 on Saturday, traveling to IU Southeast (IN) to face off against the Grenadiers with tipoff at noon CT.

IU Southeast (2-0) has picked up a pair of convincing victories to begin its season on a high note. The Grenadiers knocked off CU-Harrodsburg (KY) 84-67 on Oct. 28 & Kentucky Christian 90-62 on Nov. 3.

Scoring for IU Southeast has come at the luxury of the dynamic guard trio of Lauren Lambdin, Kirstie Henn, & Emmy Ralph. Lambdin has earned her role as the top threat, with the junior having corralled a 19 points per game average on 13-of-34 shooting from the field. Henn (17 ppg) & Ralph (15 ppg) have each tallied double-figures in both games this season. As a team, the Grenadiers are averaging 87 ppg while holding opponents to just 64.5 ppg.

As for Lindsey Wilson, a season ago saw the team put together a 26-6 overall record including a 13-3 mark in the Mid-South Conference. The Blue Raiders earned an at-large bid into the NAIA Division I National Tournament as a No. 4 seed, but was not able to play due to the COVID-19 pandemic cancelling the tournament.

All eyes this season look to be on Reagan Turner, who steps on the court for her senior year with LWC. A season ago, Turner led the MSC averaging 18.9 ppg on a team-high 34.4 minutes per contest. She collected First Team All-MSC honors while being named to the NAIA Division I All-American Second Team list for the second straight season.

Alongside Turner, Lindsey Wilson welcomes back seven other student-athletes from the roster a year ago. The Blue Raiders will also add two freshmen and three transfer players to the mix.

Saturday will mark the start of the 32nd season head coach John B. Wethington will lead on the sidelines for the LWC women's basketball program. Wethington enters 2020-21 after claiming the MSC Coach of the Year award a season ago, which was the third of his career. As it stands, Wethington sits at No. 2 on the NAIA's active all-time wins list with 634 career victories.

Live video & live stats will be available for the game. Tipoff is scheduled for noon CT on Saturday. Please view the IU Southeast fall spectator policy if you are interested in attending this matchup.
