Nancy Buchanan, 92, Cumberland County, KY

Nancy O. Buchanan of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away Saturday, October 10, 2020, at The Cumberland Valley Manor in Burkesville, Kentucky, having attained the age of 92 years and 26 days. She was born in Livingston (Overton County), Tennessee on Saturday, September 15, 1928, the daughter of Robert and Hazel (Curtis) Officer.

She was of Baptist faith, a member of Burkesville Baptist Church, a school teacher and librarian for 45 years for the Cumberland County School System, and former owner of Curtis & McComas. She received her Associate’s degree from Lindsey Wilson College, and her Bachelor of Science degree, Master’s degree, and Rank I from Western Kentucky University. She was a member of the Burkesville Women’s Club, V. F. W. Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star Burkesville Chapter #380, Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, Cumberland County Retired Teachers, D. A. R., and W. M. U. Baptist Church.



She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father, Bedford Curtis, her husband, William Thomas “Tommy” Buchanan, whom she wed Sunday, November 28, 1948, and her sister and brother-in-law, Emily Jo and Jimmy Coe.

She is survived by her half-brother, Robert Officer of St. Louis, Missouri, nieces and nephews, Nancy J. Coe Hamm of Jennings, Florida, Linda Lea Sharp of Burkesville, Kentucky, James B. Coe of Arizona, Lawrence Lee (and Vivian) Miller of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and cousins, Libby Riggins, Lanny Judd, Joe Howard Curtis, Dixie Hall, J. W. Monroe, Roy Curtis Nance, Linda Lou Cook, Martha Ann Streckfus, Barbara Barnes, and Keith McComas.

The funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at 2pmCT at the Burkesville Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Burkesville Cemetery in Burkesville, Kentucky. The family will receive friends after 5pm on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at Norris-New Funeral Home and after 8am on Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at the Burkesville Baptist Church until the funeral hour. In lieu of flowers, contributions appreciated to the Burkesville Baptist Church or the Burkesville Cemetery (P. O. Box 246, Burkesville, Ky 42717).
