LWC Athletics boasts 19 NAIA Scholar Teams in 2019-20 By Chris Wells Nineteen Lindsey Wilson College athletic programs earned 2019-20 NAIA Scholar-Team honors, NAIA officials announced on Tuesday as part of the NAIA National Awards Day. Since the inception of the award in 2006-07, 174 Lindsey Wilson teams have earned the national honor. Lindsey Wilson has had at least 10 NAIA Scholar Teams each of the last 11 years. The 19 teams are one shy of the school record 20 set in 2018-19. To be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, a team must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average as defined by the institution. The team grade point average includes all student-athletes on the eligibility certificate. Three Lindsey Wilson teams not associated with the NAIA also accomplished the feat giving the LWC athletics department 22 teams with at least a 3.0 GPA for the 2018-19 academic year. Women's golf produced the top Lindsey Wilson grade point average in 2019-20. The women's golf program produced a 3.87 GPA for the academic year. It marks the first time the women's golf program has boasted the highest team GPA at Lindsey Wilson. Women's soccer produced a 3.74 team GPA while women's tennis earned a 3.62 team GPA to finish just behind women's golf. Other Lindsey Wilson NAIA Scholar Teams include men's golf (3.55), men's tennis (3.45), women's volleyball (3.42), women's swimming (3.39), women's bowling (3.34), men's cross country (3.27), softball (3.23), women's basketball (3.22), women's cross country (3.21), men's swimming (3.19), baseball (3.13), men's soccer (3.10), women's outdoor track & field (3.08), men's outdoor track & field (3.07), wrestling (3.04), and women's indoor track & field (3.03). Dance (3.45), cycling (3.35), and archery (3.14) -- the Lindsey Wilson non-NAIA teams -- also achieved a team GPA of 3.0. This story was posted on 2020-09-15 13:27:20
