Regan Turner receives 2020 Emil S. Liston award

By Chris Wells

Lindsey Wilson women's basketball student-athlete Reagan Turner has been named the 2020 NAIA Emil S. Liston Scholarship Award recipient, NAIA officials announced today as part of the NAIA's National Awards Day.

The Emil S. Liston award recognizes both academic and athletic excellence by a men and women's basketball student-athlete. The scholarship is named in honor of the NAIA's first executive secretary that was also a prime mover behind the men's basketball tournament. This award has been presented annually since 1950.

"I am so honored to be the female recipient of the Emil S. Liston Scholarship Award," Turner said. "Academics and basketball have always been some of my biggest passions in life. It means so much to me to be recognized for all of the hard work and dedication I have put into both. I just want to thank God, my family, coaches, teammates, and all of the people that have helped and encouraged me along the way."

Turner enters her senior season in 2020-21 ranked fourth on the program's all-time scoring list (1,818 points). She also sits in the program's top-10 in career scoring average (18.2), field goals made (582), free throws made (528), free throw percentage (82.6), assists (316), and steals (187).

She helped the Blue Raiders to a 26-6 record in 2019-20, including receiving a berth into the NAIA National Tournament.

"Reagan is an incredible leader and teammate," Lindsey Wilson women's basketball coach John B. Wethington said. "She has the unique ability to impact everyone around her in a positive way. Reagan is selfless, a person of high character and integrity, and one of the best basketball players that I have had the pleasure of coaching.

Turner is a two-time member of the NAIA All-America team and a two-time member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-America team. She is a three-time All Mid-South Conference performer, including being named the 2017-18 Mid-South Conference Freshman of the Year and the 2018-19 MSC Player of the Year.

Over her career, she has been named Mid-South Conference Player of the Week four times and NAIA National Player of the Week twice.

Off the basketball court, Turner is a two-time Academic All Mid-South Conference performer and just earned her first NAIA Scholar-Athlete honor with today's NAIA announcement of the national scholar awards for the 2019-20 season. Turner was also a member of the 2019-20 Mid-South Conference Women's Basketball Champions of Character team.

"Reagan is an extremely motivated, hard-working individual who is an incredible ambassador for Lindsey Wilson College," LWC athletics director Willis Pooler said. "She has a servant's heart, excellent leadership qualities, and is the epitome of the ideal student-athlete. While she is an outstanding basketball player, she's an even better person and we are incredibly proud of this and all of her accomplishments."

Turner is scheduled to be recognized during the 2021 NAIA National Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana, in April.
