CPD: Columbia man arrested for assault

By Officer Adam Cravens, PIO
Columbia Police Department

On Monday night, July 13, 2020, Columbia Police Department officers responded to Carrie Bolin Drive after multiple 911 calls initially stating a woman had been thrown from a truck.

Upon arrival, a female victim was found to have leaped from the vehicle on her own to get away from the vehicle's operator. The victim had multiple lacerations on her body consistent with puncture wounds. The female stated that she had been assaulted and stabbed by the vehicle operator before fleeing, and was able to provide CPD officers with the attacker's identity. The victim was transported by Adair EMS to TJ Samson Columbia, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Some time later, the vehicle was located abandoned on Downey Lake Road. The interior of the vehicle was found to have been cleaned out with bleach.

Chris Belcher, 39, of Columbia, was located before midnight at a residence four miles down Pelham Branch Road. He was promptly taken into custody without incident. He has been charged with assault 2nd degree as well as tampering with physical evidence; a class C and D felony respectively.

Officer Evan Burton was the arresting Officer. The Columbia Police were assisted by The Kentucky State Police and the Adair County Sheriff's Office.
