Lindsey Wilson Swimming Signs Seven for 2020-21 Season

The Lindsey Wilson swim program has signed seven student-athletes for the 2020-21 season, head coach Alicia Kemnitz announced on Thursday.

Savannah Schoeman, Juliana Villa and Allie Rutherford signed with the women's team as Jordan Hartig, Evan Conklin, Chase Hickman and Tyler Buffel signed with the men.

"I am especially happy with how this recruiting class came together considering the various challenges that families are facing because of COVID-19," Kemnitz said. "Our incoming men are a diverse and strong group who will each add depth to our program. While the women's class is small it is equally as strong. These talented student-athletes are all amazing sprinters who will make our relays more competitive."

"It is always an honor to be chosen as a student-athletes home for the next four years as I'm excited to challenge them to be their best in the classroom and the water," Kemnitz said.



Savannah Schoeman:
Comes to Lindsey Wilson from Cornwall Hill College and is from Pretoria, South Africa. She competed for a club team, the TUKS, and plans on majoring in Psychology at Lindsey Wilson College. In high school, she earned academic honors throughout her coursework as well as earning a placement in the pool at South Africa Senior Nationals.

"After speaking to coach Kemnitz, I chose Lindsey Wilson College because of their great Swimming program, as well as the fantastic facilities and world-class academic courses," Schoeman said. " I felt right at home after chatting to coach Coetzee and other team members."

Juliana Villa:
Comes to Lindsey Wilson from Cali, Colombia and Colegio Berchmans High School. She also competed for the Aquatic Center Swim Club and last competed at Iowa Lakes Community College where she turned in some top times at the national tournament. Villa has a host of academic and athletic accomplishments. Academically, she has been named to the President's list, Presidential scholar at ILCC, Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society, Honors program at ILCC and the All-Iowa Academic Team Fall 2019. She was a CSCAA All-American while taking 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th place at NJCAA championships.

"Lindsey (Wilson) has an incredible business program that I believe will prepare me for my future in marketing," Villa said. " The Blue Raiders have a really interesting swimming program that I think I can be a good fit for while growing as a swimmer.

Villa plans on majoring in business administration with an emphasis in marketing.

Allie Rutherford:
Comes to Lindsey Wilson from Rockport, Indiana where she attended South Spencer High School. Academically, Rutherford earned the honor roll four consecutive years with being the secretary of the Beta Club. In the pool, She is a three-time All-Conference swimmer, a state qualifier in two events as well as holding five high school records.

"I have heard good things about Lindsey (Wilson) and cant wait to become a Blue Raider," Rutherford said. "I am so excited to work with coach Kemnitz and Coetzee and to meet all of my new teammates."

Jordan Hartig:
Comes to Lindsey Wilson from Cold Spring, Kentucky where he attended Campbell County High School. He also competed for a club team, the Cincinnati Marlins. He was named the most improved swimmer during his freshman and junior year as well as serving as the team captain during his senior campaign. Hartig was named the programs MVP last season. He earned the Triple Threat Award by KHSAA in 2018, an award given to athletes in three varsity sports. Hartig competed in four sports for Campbell County, taking part in cross country, track and field and soccer, along with swimming.

Academically, he earned eight scholar-athlete awards over his high school career. At Lindsey Wilson, he plans on majoring in Nursing.

Evan Conklin:
Comes to Lindsey Wilson from Lake City, Florida and is a graduate of Columbia High School. He competed as a swimmer for the Mako's Aquatic Club. He is a three-time academic swimmer of the year for Columbia High School as well as being inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society. He plans on majoring in Sports Management at Lindsey Wilson.

In the pool, Conklin is a two-time Florida Swimming Zones Champion with the 200 and 400-yard freestyle relay in 2019. He is a three-time most valuable swimmer, holds the 100 freestyle record with a 49.18 and is the highest state men's finisher for Columbia High School Swim Team at 20th in the 100 freestyle. He is a seven-time Florida Swimming Senior Championship qualifier and 3 time Spring Southern Zone Speedo Sectionals qualifier.

"I felt that LWC had everything that I needed to succeed in the next journey of my life. A great Sports Management program, a great small school, the fantastic men's swim team," Conklin said. "When I visited, I felt that I had finally found the place that I wanted to call home for the next four years."

Chase Hickman:
Comes to Lindsey Wilson from Columbia, Tennessee and is a graduate of Columbia Central High School. He also competed for a club swimming team, the Excel Aquatics. Academically, Hickman earned the Tennessee All-Star Prep Award, which is an All-Academic Swimming Award.

In the pool he is a two time Southern Tennessee All-Star Prep Award Winner, accomplishing the feat twice, along with an MTHSSA All-Region First Team and an MTHSSA All-Region Second Team selection.

"I chose Lindsey Wilson because I felt it was the best place to further my academic and athletic careers," Hickman said.

Tyler Buffel:
Comes to Lindsey Wilson from Johannesburg, South Africa where he attended Curro Aurora High School. He also competed for the Waterborn Swimming Club. Academically, he earned distinctions in Business studies and Life Orientation as well as a Merit award for Afrikaans.

In the pool, Buffel has seen his share of success as well. He was named swimmer of the year 2019 at Curro Aurora. Represented South Africa in Mauritius at CANA, Gauteng at Tricolor games in Italy as well as Treviso and Pesaro cup. He also participated in South African junior and senior nationals.

"LWC is the perfect place for me to achieve my academic and swimming goals," Buffel said. "Lindsey Wilson's values also align with my values and I love what Lindsey Wilson College and the Blue Raiders stand for: one team #ONEHEARTBEAT. "
