James Ronald (Jiggs) Smith, 69, Portland, KY (1950-2020)

James Ronald "Jiggs" Smith of the Portland community passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2020 at TJ Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow. He was 69 years old.

The family has chosen a Drive-Thru visitation from 5pmCT to 7pmCT on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY.

The funeral service and burial in Tarter's Chapel Cemetery will be held privately. Online condolences may be left at grissommartin.com.



He was born October 31, 1950, in Adair County, to the late James Robert and Jessie Ruth Pyles Smith, attended Pickett's Chapel United Methodist Church and drove a truck for Coffey's Trucking Company for over 30 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dianne Smith.

Survivors include:
  • His wife - Lelia May Stilts Smith of Portland
  • Two daughters - Stephanie Rene' Dunbar and her husband Cary "Red" Dunbar of Greensburg & Kelli Katina Shepherd of Portland
  • Three brothers & sisters-in-law - Barry & Minnie Smith, Colby & Connie Smith, Jerry & Sandy Smith all of Columbia
  • One sister & brother-in-law - Pam & Kenneth Montgomery of Columbia
  • Eight grandchildren
  • Three great-grandchildren
  • Three nieces
  • Two nephews
  • A host of other relatives and friends
The family request that no flowers be sent, but would rather a donation be made in the form of Gideon Bibles, Tarter's Chapel Cemetery Fund or Pickett's Chapel Church Building Fund. These can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
