Back to School - at home From Sharon Harris, keeping in touch with family The Coronavirus, COVID-19 has upended schedules in unimaginable ways. Among the most difficult is in the areas of public and private schools and colleges whose students have been ordered to keep up the good work - from home. Parents Dwain and Julie Harris gave permission to share their Corona schedule for their twins third graders John Parker and his sister, Piper, and their son Matt who is in the eighth grade. The Corona schedule at the Harris house includes the following: 8 to 9am - wake up hour. Eat breakfast, phone/TV time, get dressed, make beds, brush teeth (if you wake up earlier than eight then you just get more time!) 9-10am - Academic time - no electronics. iLearn packets, NTI homework, ACT prep for Matthew (for which he can use computer). 10-10:15am - snack time 11am-noon - Outdoor play. If it's raining, find some indoor activity or exercise to do. Noon-1pm - lunch and screen time. 1-2pm - creative time. Legos, arts and crafts, etc. 2-3pm - Academic time. Finish any NTI/ilearn homework first, then can do iReady, Lexia or Prodigy on the computer. 3:15pm - Snack time. 3:15-4pm - Chores. Things to get done daily: unload the dishwasher, do laundry/put away clean clothes, tidy rooms, tidy bathrooms (clean sinks and toilet), take out the trash in both kitchens and bathrooms, pick up and put away your clothes/toys/items in the living room and kitchens (upstairs and downstairs). Special projects to do this week that earn money: Twins - organize toys/craft section of the potato closet. Make a throwaway pile, a keep pile and a donate pile for toys. Clean out and organize arts and crafts items. Five dollars for each twin for completing this task with no fighting or complaining. Matt - detail the inside of van and truck. Includes: vacuuming floors and seats, using Windex to clean the inside windshield, using Clorox wipes and Q-tips to clean the dashboards and consults, using carpet cleaner and water to clean the seats in the trick. $10 for each vehicle, cleaning these meticulously. Special projects should take longer than 45 minutes. After 4pm is free time, and when video games, shows, etc should be watched or played. If you follow the schedule with no complaining or fighting, you earn a 30 minute later bedtime - 9:30pm for twins, 10:30pm for Matt. This story was posted on 2020-03-23 11:49:40
