Working to help seniors have a protected hour to shop

So far, stores that have designated special early morning hours for seniors to shop for necessities through this coronavirus challenge include Dollar General, Walmart (Tuesdays only) and Kroger. We will report others as known.

By Vicky Pike

I received a call from the Kentucky Grocers Association, Todd Griffin, after I sent a message suggesting special hours for shopping for seniors and special needs folks. He called me back to say that Governor Beshear's office had contacted them about this. Hopefully we can get others to follow along.

I also talked with Jeric DeVore who is our director for senior citizens at LCADD about our 10 County board members doing what they can in their communities to advocate for senior shopping hours at groceries and drug stores as well.

Miss Louvena Lay and I are board members from Adair County.

Hopefully we can reach out to our local community stores to help seniors and those with underlying health conditions get what they need and get out before the larger crowds come in.

So I'm asking that if your business possibly can, to set aside a time for these folks to shop.

Thank you to all our businesses who are doing all they can to keep food on the table and medicine for those who need it.
