Offense propels LWC baseball to 15-5 win over Midway

By Christopher Coombs

The Lindsey Wilson baseball team defeated Midway (KY) 15-5 in just seven innings on Tuesday afternoon at Egnew Park.

The Blue Raiders (10-11) scored 15 runs on 14 hits in the game as Midway (7-15) managed 10 hits to push five runs home. Lindsey Wilson made use of extra-base hits as five Blue Raiders managed doubles and Seth Price and Lucas Bault tallied home runs.

Price went 2-for-3 at the plate with five RBI's as Derek Zavala, Tyler Maskill, and Jed Arend also added two hits in the game. Josh Barnett picked up the win going five innings and striking out three batters while giving up just five hits. Fernando Rosales pitched the final two innings, also adding three strikeouts.

Zavala led off the bottom of the first inning with a single before Maskill reached base on a walk. Dillan Saunders produced a two-out, two-RBI double to score both Zavala and Maskill, giving LWC an early 2-0 lead.

Midway got one back in the second inning as Cameron Nichols led off with a triple. He later scored on a sac fly to left field.

The Blue Raiders exploded for five runs in the bottom half of the inning on six hits. Cody Fallon pushed home the innings first run with an RBI single to left. Kelvin Llanos scored on the play after pinch-running for Chance Stayton who doubled down the left-field line earlier in the inning.

With the bases loaded and one out, Price produced the first three of his five RBI's in the game with a double that cleared the bases to give LWC a 7-1 lead.

Midway tacked on another run in the third inning on two hits, trimming the Lindsey Wilson advantage to five runs.

With runners on second and third Coby Wall doubled to deep right-center in the fourth inning. Gabe Board and Price both reached base via walks to lead off the inning before a Maskill sac bunt pushed them both into scoring position.

After two outs to open the bottom of the fifth inning, the Blue Raiders managed three-runs. Board reached on a walk before Price hit a two-run home run to push the LWC lead to 11-2. Maskill then reached base on a walk as Koby Wall walked before a Jed Arend single scored Maskill for the innings final run.

Midway pushed two more runs home in the sixth inning on three hits.

Thorne Gray doubled in the sixth inning to score Jalen Riley before Bault smashed a two-run shot over the left-field fence to push the LWC lead to 15-4.

The Eagles managed to put runners on the corners before an error allowed Midway to score one run with two outs in the inning, trimming the LWC lead to 15-5. A fly out to left field ended the contest via run rule.

Lindsey Wilson is back in action tomorrow when they take on IU Southeast at Egnew Park. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT.
