LWC Baseball Set for MSC road series Friday & Saturday

After completing a three-game sweep over the College of the Ozarks (MO) last weekend, the Lindsey Wilson baseball team returns to action today & tomorrow opening Mid-South Conference play on the road in Pikeville (KY). Today's matchup against the Bears will be a single game beginning at 1pmCT. Saturday will feature a doubleheader that will begin at 11amCT.



The Blue Raiders (7-10) outscored the Ozarks 22-4 in the three-game sweep last weekend at Egnew Park. The Lindsey Wilson bats came alive in the series, as 33 total hits were pushed out from the plate.

Derek Zavala leads LWC this season with 25 total hits and a .417 batting average while having stolen 15 bags. Dillan Saunders holds the team-high of 11 RBI's on 20 hits while launching out two home runs in his 2020 campaign. Seth Price & Tyler Maskill have each tallied 17 hits on the year to continue a consistent presence from the plate. Vincent Boils enters Pikeville after corralling three hits and five RBI's against the Ozarks on March 1st.

The trio of Chandler Harnage, Bradley Hines, and Ethan Escue serves as the top starting pitchers for LWC. Harnage leads the team with 34-1/3 innings pitched and 25 punch outs from the bump this season. Hines has put together 19-2/3 innings of work while striking out 15 batters for a 6.8 K's per game average. Escue holds a 2-1 record and a 2.38 ERA on 11-1/3 innings of work. Cade Duncan leads with four saves as the top closer out of the bullpen.

Pikeville (6-13) returns home after splitting a recent doubleheader with West Virginia Tech on Wednesday afternoon in Dunbar, W.Va. The Bears have dropped seven of the last nine contests.

Seven Pikeville hitters have added double-digit hits to the team-total. Noah Helton leads the way with 19 this season while having raced his way to five doubles and six stolen bases in the process. The RBI leaders for Pikeville are Kase Mattingly & Eduardo Bello with 12 apiece.

Brady Cappe has seen the most time on the mound for UPIKE, going 21-1/3 innings pitched while striking out 26 batters on a 5.91 ERA. Peyton Dove has put together 19 innings of work striking out 12 batters while allowing a team-high 18 earned runs. Jordan Davy carries the lone save for the Bears this year.

Live stats will be available for today & tomorrow's games. The game today is set to begin at 1 p.m. CT, while tomorrow's doubleheader is set to begin at 11 a.m. CT.
