LWC Swimming competes at NAIA National Championships

The Lindsey Wilson men's and women's swimming teams travel to Knoxville, Tennessee to compete at the NAIA Men and Women's Swimming National Championships at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center, 2200 Andy Holt Ave SW, Knoxville, TN, this Wednesday through Saturday.

The Blue Raiders last competed at the Mid-South Conference Championships on Feb. 6-8. The men's team placed second only behind Cumberlands (Ky), while the women's team placed fourth in conference championships.

The women's team is ranked ninth in the NAIA Coaches' Top 10 Poll, while the men's side is ranked fifth.

Day one of the national tournament begins at 10amCT with the 800-yard freestyle relay being the only event scheduled for the day. The women's team is seeded seventh while the men are seeded third in the event.

Competition on Thursday through Saturday begins at 9amCT for the preliminaries, followed by the finals which are contested starting at 5pmCT each day.



The first event on Thursday is the 200-yard freestyle relay, in which both the men's and women's programs are competing in. Both men's and women's relay teams are ranked 10th.

The 500-yard freestyle is the second event of the day and will feature two LWC swimmers from both men's and women's side. Calvin Coetzee is seeded second in this event, while Michael Peck is seeded at 36th for the men's programs. The women's side features Emma Phillips at 41st and Jaye Farthing at 45th.

In the 200-yard individual medley, Jessica Macdonald holds the fifth spot while Narjiss Bourbouh and Sarah Hahn sit 37th and 39th respectively for the women's squad. For the men, Ron Wolfart and Reece Kincaid are seeded 17th and 18th respectively while William Thilwind holds the 40th spot.

Carlene Taylor rolls into Knoxville as the lone women's swimmer in the 50-yard freestyle with the 25th seed. For the men, Ricky Dungan and Tyler King sit at 27th and 28th respectively, James de Goede holds the 30th spot, and Bryce Rice is at 45th the event.

The final event for Thursday is the 400-yard medley relay, in which both the men's and women's programs are set to compete. The women sit in the ninth spot, while the men rank third in the event.

Day three starts with the 200-yard medley relay where the women's team sits in eighth and the men's team in ninth. The 400-yard individual medley follows with Kincaid slotted in the 11th spot for the men, while Hahn holds the 29th spot for the women.

Narjiss Bourbouh is set to compete as the lone LWC swimmer in the 100-yard butterfly. She will enter the race the 16th seed.

The next event on the slate is the 200-yard freestyle. For the women, Macdonald sits at the sixth spot while Taylor holds the No. 14 spot. The men's team features Coetzee as the No. 1-ranked competitor in the event, while Dungan holds 24th and King rolls in 26th.

The final two events of the day are the 100-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard backstroke. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Wolfart holds the No. 9 spot while Rice controls the No. 17 seed for the men. The 100-yard backstroke features Nissrine Bourbouh seeded at 29th with Hahn adding in on the women's side at 36th. De Goede and Thilwind go fifth and sixth respectively in the event for the LWC Men.

On the final day of competition, the 1,650-yard freestyle is the first event of the day. Emma Phillips will race for the women's squad, as she's slotted at the No. 18 seed. The men's race will feature Dungan as the lone competitor for LWC in the No. 23 spot.

Next up will be the 200-yard backstroke, which will feature Hahn as the solo women's swimmer at the No. 20 seed. On the men's side, Thilwind holds the seventh seed while Peck competes in the 23rd spot.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Coetzee will represent the men's team as the third seed in the event, while Wolfart holds the No. 15 spot and de Goede the 28th. For the women, Macdonald will swim as the No. 5 seed while Taylor holds the 20th spot.

The 200-yard breaststroke will feature another solo LWC swimmer in Wolfart, who will hit the pool as the 15th seed.

The final two events to round out the championships will be the 200-yard butterfly and the 400-yard freestyle relay. The women's squad will race Narjiss Bourbouh in the 200-yard butterfly at the No. 21 seed, while the men will put Kincaid in the pool for the event at 17th. The 400-yard freestyle relay will feature both relay teams, with the men slotted at No. 3 and the women at No. 8.

Last season, the men's program finished seventh with 193 team points, while Keiser (Fla.) captured the men's crown with 622 points.

The women's program finished in eighth place with 175 team points. SCAD- Savannah (Ga.) captured the women's title with 638.5 points.

The Blue Raiders are set to compete at 10amCT on Wednesday, March 4th at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.
