LWC Basketball Travels to Cumberlands for MSC game

The Lindsey Wilson men's and women's basketball teams conclude conference play this evening, heading east to Williamsburg, Kentucky to face Cumberlands (KY) beginning at 5pmCT with the women's matchup followed by the men's matchup at 7pmCT.

In the earlier meeting this season on Jan. 18, the LWC women's team grabbed the victory 79-68 in the matchup at Biggers Sports Center. On the men's side, the Patriots walked out with a road victory of 70-65.



The No. 13-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team (24-5, 12-3 MSC) is led in scoring this season by Reagan Turner, who is averaging a Mid-South Conference best 18.7 points per game while ranking fourth in the NAIA DI in total scoring at 544. DeAsia Outlaw leads the Blue Raiders in rebounds per game (7.7), steals per game (2.4), and blocks per game (two) while averaging 14.2 points per game. J'Nayah Hall and Jynea Harris are both averaging double-figure scoring averages, while Maleigha Oldham has scored double-digit points in three straight contests.

The receiving votes Cumberlands women's basketball team (19-9, 6-8 MSC) sees heavy production from the duo of Silvia Veloso and Carla Covane. Veloso leads her squad in points per game (12.8), assists per game (3.1) and steals per game (four) while recently rolling home a 27 point game against Pikeville (Ky.) on Feb. 22. Covane is grabbing a team-high 7.8 rebounds per game and helps the Patriots rank sixth in the NAIA DI total rebounding margin (9.1)

The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team (16-13, 6-9 MSC) utilizes Reece Brooks as its top threat. Brooks leads the Mid-South Conference in scoring at 19.7 points per game and has garnered team-highs of 5.2 assists per game and 1.6 steals per game. Brooks also leads his squad in three-pointers made at 83 while Payton Cundiff has cashed in 72 of his own. As a team, LWC ranks fourth in the NAIA DI in total three-pointers made (313).

The No. 14-ranked Cumberlands men's basketball team (22-6, 11-3 MSC) has used the strong connection of Tevin Olison and Caleb Taylor to execute strong success this season. Olison leads the team with a 17.4 points per game average and 2.4 assists per game average while shooting 44 percent from the floor. In the earlier meeting this season, Olison dropped home 23 points and made five three-pointers against the Blue Raiders. Taylor makes his presence known in the paint, as the big man is grabbing a team-high 11 rebounds per game, including an NAIA DI best four offensive boards per game. Taylor is also blocking 1.5 shots per game while averaging 11.2 points per game.

Live stats and video will be available for both games. The women's matchup is slated to begin at 5 p.m. CT, while the men's is set to start at 7pmCT in Williamsburg.
