LWC Softball set to host a weekend of competition

The No. 5-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team returns to Columbia to host Indiana Tech, Huntington (IN) and Saint Mary of the Woods (IN) Thursday, Feb. 27 through Saturday, Feb. 29 at Marilyn D. Sparks Park, Lindsey Wilson Sports Complex, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY.

First pitch between the Blue Raiders and the Warriors of Indiana Tech is set for Thursday at 3pmCT, with game two beginning 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. Friday Lindsey Wilson meets Huntington in a doubleheader starting at 3pmCT. The Blue Raiders conclude the weekend of competition against the Pomeroys of Saint Mary of the Woods in a single game beginning at 2pmCT on Saturday.

Lindsey Wilson (6-0) returns to action after a perfect opening weekend in Mississippi and Alabama. The Blue Raiders picked up a pair of wins against each opponent.



Over the weekend, the Blue Raiders limited their opponents to a .291 on-base percentage and a .373 slugging percentage, while marking a .407 on-base percentage and a .604 slugging percentage of their own. Makea-Al Kaluau led Lindsey Wilson with her 14 RBIs, five home runs, nine total hits, and an impressive 1.238 slugging percentage.

Five Blue Raiders made an appearance in the pitching circle. Annabelle Ramirez pitched two games, tallying a team-high 17 strikeouts. Abby Whelan and Hannah Epperson each pitched 7.0 innings and boast 0.0 ERAs.

Indiana Tech (0-0) opens its season against the Blue Raiders. Last season the Warriors finished 24-25 and an even 11-11 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. Indiana Tech returns 15 players from the 2019 squad, including the team's hits and runs leader, Brianna Glass, and the Warrior's top-four pitchers. Glass accumulated 73 hits and 57 runs last season with a .456 batting average.

The Blue Raiders and Warriors have met once before in the 2013 season, which resulted in a 13-5 Lindsey Wilson victory.

Huntington (0-0) kicks off its 2020 campaign against Lindsey Wilson. In 2019 the Foresters finished with a 17-32 record and a 13-22 record in the Crossroads League. Twelve returners are featured on the roster, including Paige Eichelberger, the Forester's leader in hits (63), runs (29) and slugging percentage (.529). Meghan Fretz returns as Huntington's most utilized pitcher, marking a 4.27 ERA in 137.2 innings pitched.

Friday marks the second doubleheader between the two programs. The Blue Raiders lead the series 2-0 after defeating the Foresters twice last season with the scores of 7-0 and 1-0.

Saint Mary of the Woods (0-0) opens its 2020 season against the Brescia Bearcats on Friday before meeting the Foresters of Huntington at noon CT at Sparks Park on Saturday and then the Blue Raiders at 2 p.m. CT. The Pomeroys return to action after capturing the 2019 USCAA National Championship to cap-off their 25-10 season.

This will be the first meeting between the Blue Raiders and Pomeroys.

Live stats and video will be available for all five of Lindsey Wilson's games and the game set for noon CT on Saturday between Huntington and Saint Mary College of the Woods.

The Blue Raiders are set for first pitch against Indiana Tech at 3pmCT on Thursday at Marilyn D. Sparks Park in Columbia, Kentucky.
