CU Steel Band/Clinton Central HS Steel Band in concert Feb. 28 By Kaitlyn Fowler Campbellsville, KY - The Campbellsville University Steel Band, to be joined by the Clinton Central High School Steel Band, will present a concert at 7pmET on Friday, February 28, 2020, in The Gheens Recital Hall, 210 University Drive, Campbellsville, KY. There will be over 20 performing members and close to 50 steel drums will be on stage at the same time. The concert will feature different styles of music including soca, samba, pop and calypso. This event will be free to the public. Dr. Chad Floyd is the director of Campbellsville University Steel Band. Floyd serves as the associate professor of percussion at CU. He also serves as the president for the Kentucky Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society (PAS) and as a member of the PAS education committee. Floyd hold degrees from University of Kentucky (Doctor of Musical Arts), Belmont University (Master of Music), Eastern Kentucky University (Master of Arts in Education) and Campbellsville University (Bachelor of Music Education). Floyd has performed throughout the United States, Brazil, China, Ecuador, Japan, South Korea and Trinidad. He has also performed in multiple international tours as the drummer for the Brazilian-based group, Almedia Duo, and has served as drummer for the Grammy-nominated members of Sojourn Fare. Floyd has performed with the Birdsong Steel Orchestra Winds Ensemble at Panorama in Trinidad and with the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra Kentucky, Sacred Winds Ensemble and Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra. Floyd has original works for percussion which are published by Bachovich Publications, C-Alan Publications, Innovative Percussion Inc., Row-Loff Productions and Trapspace Publications. Floyd said he is proud to be an artist endorser/clinician for Grover Pro Percussion Inc., Humes Berg Co., Innovative Percussion Inc., Pearl Drums and Adams Musical Instruments and Remo Inc. The Clinton Central Steel Band is in its fifth year of operation as an ensemble. The band was started by Kyle Duke in 2016 upon assuming the role of head band director at Clinton Central School Corporation, located just north of Indianapolis. The band meets once a day as a class, plays various stand-alone performances throughout the year and at times collaborates with the CC Jazz Ensemble. This band is a community favorite and a unique ensemble for the central part of the state. Duke is head of the Clinton Central School Corporation located in Michigantown, Ind. In 2008, he graduated from Campbellsville University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. He continued his studies at Eastern Kentucky University, earning a Master's in Music Performance and a Master of Arts in Teaching. While at EKU, Duke also taught classes in applied percussion and music theory. Upon graduating from EKU, Duke immediately assumed the role as assistant band director at Russell County High School in Kentucky. He taught four years before moving to Indiana. Along with being an educator, Duke has also spent time aboard various cruise ships as a drummer for many of their onboard Big Bands.
