LWC Women's Basketball bests Georgetown 80-70

By Christopher Coombs

The No. 12-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team willed their way to an 80-70 win over Mid-South Conference opponent Georgetown (Ky.) on Thursday evening at Biggers Sports Center.

The Blue Raiders (23-5, 11-3 MSC) made use of 17 Georgetown (13-13, 4-9 MSC) turnovers which led directly to 18 points and helped guide Lindsey Wilson to their 11th MSC win. LWC held a slight 38-32 advantage on the glass, leading to a 32-20 points in the paint advantage. Georgetown managed a slightly better shooting percentage for the contest at 46.2 percent compared to the Blue Raiders 45.5 mark.

DeAsia Outlaw filled the stat sheet pouring in a team-high 23 points and seven rebounds. She added five of the Blue Raiders 11 steals and three blocks. Reagan Turner added 18 points and six rebounds as Jynea Harris and J'Nayah Hall had thirteen points, adding six and five boards, respectively. Maleigha Oldham was the final Blue Raider in double figures with 12 points and five rebounds.

Lindsey Wilson and Georgetown were knotted at four early in the contest but a 9-0 run propelled LWC to a 13-4 lead with 3:43 to play. Georgetown trimmed the LWC advantage to eight points over the final minutes as Lindsey Wilson took a 19-11 lead after ten minutes.

The Blue Raiders charged out of the gates in the second frame, pushing their lead to as many as 14 points - their largest lead to that point -- over the first four minutes. Leading 25-11, the Tigers once again kept themselves in the game as they cut the LWC lead to nine points at 35-26 going into halftime.

Turnovers proved to be the difference-maker in the half for Lindsey Wilson, forcing nine Tiger miscues that led to 13 Blue Raider points. Outlaw and Turner led the effort with 10 and nine points, respectively. Outlaw added for steals in the half as LWC managed 35 field goal attempts to the Tigers 24.

Georgetown continued to pressure the Blue Raiders out of the break, cutting the LWC lead to just six points at 39-33 with just two minutes gone. The Blue Raiders pushed their lead back to ten points before a Georgetown surge saw the LWC lead cut to five points at 47-43 with just over four to play. Lindsey Wilson finished the quarter strong, outscoring the Tigers 9-4 to take a 56-47 lead into the final quarter.

The Blue Raiders produced their largest lead of the night at the 5:47 mark of the final quarter as they led at 66-49. Georgetown managed to cut the LWC lead to 80-70 after hitting a buzzer-beater three but the Blue Raiders had done enough to secure the victory.

Georgetown's Kennedy Flynn scored a game-high 30 points as Hailey Ison managed 15 of her own.

The Blue Raiders are back in action on Saturday at 2pmCT when they welcome No. 22 Thomas More (Ky.) to Biggers Sports Center for senior day.
