LWC Men's basketball drops upset bid against No. 1 Georgetown

By Brady Budke

Despite a strong first half showing, the Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team was defeated by No. 1-ranked Georgetown (KY) 100-87 Thursday night at Biggers Sports Center.

The trio of Kameron Mack, Malik Hart, and Reece Brooks helped carry the Blue Raiders on the offensive end of the floor. Mack led the scoring with 20 points on 6-of-11 scoring while adding six rebounds. Hart tallied up 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting while pulling home a double-double with 13 rebounds. Brooks put together 16 points to round out the double-figure scoring efforts for LWC.

Georgetown was led on offense by Eljay Cowherd, who put together a double-double with 22 points and 12 assists. Jacob Conway added 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting, while Chris Coffey also garnered up a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.

The game began in favor of the Tigers who rolled in a quick 7-0 lead in front of the opposing crowd. Georgetown controlled the flow of the game until the halfway mark when Lindsey Wilson prevailed with a crucial 13-5 run that knotted the scoring up at 33. The half remained a stalemate until the halftime buzzer, which had the Blue Raiders leading 43-42 on the top team in the land.

Lindsey Wilson was held together in the first half by Mack, who put home 13 points. Hart followed right behind with nine points of his own. The Tigers saw high production from Conway and Jake Ohmer, who rolled home 13 and 11 points respectively.

The second half began with both teams attempting to gain the important upper hand. Georgetown's experience and strength proved to be the second half difference maker, as it rolled a one-point lead into a nine-point lead in three minutes of action. The Blue Raiders successfully trimmed the deficit to six in the half, but could never get over the hump the top team brought in the 100-87 loss.

The Blue Raiders are back in action on Saturday at 4pmCT when they welcome No. 18 Thomas More (Ky.) to Biggers Sports Center for senior day.
