LWC Women's Basketball set for road clash with Fisk

By Brady Budke

The No. 14-ranked women's basketball team hits the road tonight for a non-conference matchup with Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. Tipoff is slated for 5:30pmCT.

The Blue Raiders (21-4, 10-2 MSC) completed an impressive season series sweep over No. 7-ranked Shawnee State (OH) on Feb. 8, defeating the Bears 84-71 at the Waller Gymnasium in Portsmouth, OH.

Reagan Turner leads Lindsey Wilson in scoring this season with an 18.3 points per game average, which currently ranks second best in the MSC. Turner also rolls with the team lead in assists per game (3.2), with her season-high of nine coming in the last outing against Shawnee State. Turner has amassed 1,672 career points in her three years of action and needs just 23 points to surpass Blue Raiders assistant coach Terran Duncan for fifth all-time in Lindsey Wilson scoring history.

DeAsia Outlaw carries heavy weight on both ends of the floor for the Blue Raiders, holding team leads in rebounds per game (7.5), steals per game (2.3), and blocks per game (2.0). Outlaw currently sits ninth all-time in Lindsey Wilson career blocks history with 48 and needs just two more to pass Bethany Spillman for eighth all time.

J'Nayah Hall and Jynea Harris have each contributed double-figure scoring averages this season, while Maleigha Oldham enters the matchup with the Bulldogs after scoring 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting in the last outing against Shawnee State.

Fisk (5-25) fell short in its last outing against Voorhees (S.C.) on Monday night by a final score of 73-63.

Jayla Long runs as the Bulldogs top overall asset on the floor. Long leads Fisk in three individual statistical categories (points per game, assists per game, and steals per game) while shooting 40.9% from the floor on a team-high 33.7 minutes per game. In a win over Crowley's Ridge (Ark.) on Feb. 1, Long had an explosive outing and neared a triple-double with 31 points, 13 steals, and seven rebounds on 15-of-22 shooting from the field.

As a team, the Bulldogs are averaging 56.2 points per game this season on 31.5% shooting from the field. On defense, Fisk is allowing 74.8 points per game while losing games by an average of 16.2 points. The Bulldogs have faced off in non-conference battles against five MSC opponents this year (Cumberland (Tenn.) twice, Campbellsville (Ky.) twice, Georgetown (Ky.), Life (Ga.), and Cumberlands (Ky.)), going 1-6 in those games. The one win against an MSC opponent came on Nov. 2, with Fisk taking down Cumberland by a final score of 64-56.

Live stats will be available for the game. Tipoff is set to begin at 5:30pmCT in Nashville, Tenn.
