LWC Men's Basketball defeats Life 85-77 in MSC play

(RV) Lindsey Wilson men's basketball picked up an 85-77 Mid-South Conference victory over Life (GA) 85-77 Saturday at Biggers Sports Center.

Reece Brooks led the way for the Blue Raiders (16-8, 5-5 MSC) matching his career-high in points with 28. Kel Stotts was in double figures with 18 points and Kameron Mack had 10. Malik Hart scored nine points and had a game-high seven assists.

The Blue Raiders shots 51.9 percent from the field as the Running Eagles (10-13, 1-9 MSC) shot 52.9 percent. Lindsey Wilson held a slight 28-25 edge in rebounds and went 15-of-15 from the free throw line.



Life began the game scoring seven of the first nine points before Lindsey Wilson went on an 11-0 run to lead 13-7. After a Running Eagle three trimmed the lead to three, the Blue Raiders scored 11 of the next 13 to lead 24-13 with 11:12 to left in the first half. Life responded with a 10-0 run of its own to cut the Lindsey Wilson lead to 24-23. After a Blue Raider three increased their lead to 27-23, Life scored seven-consecutive points to take a 30-27 lead. Brooks connected on a shot from beyond the arc to tie the game at 30 with 2:02 left in the half. Life retook the lead 32-30 before Payton Cundiff hit a three with 14 seconds left to give the Blue Raiders a 33-32 lead heading into halftime.

Lindsey Wilson shot 42.9 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc in the first half. The Running Eagles shot 52.2 percent in the half and 55.6 percent from three. Stotts led the way for the Blue Raiders in the half scoring 12 points.

Trailing 37-34, the Running Eagles scored six-consecutive points to take a 40-37 lead. The Blue Raiders responded by scoring nine of the next 11 points to lead 46-42 with 15:26 to play in the second half. Life then went on a quick 5-2 run trimming the Lindsey Wilson lead to 48-47. The Blue Raiders answered back scoring eight of the next 10 points to increase their advantage to 56-49 with 10:48 to play.

Life cut the Lindsey Wilson lead to 56-52 before the Blue Raiders went on an 8-3 run to lead 64-55 with just over eight minutes to play. Back-to-back threes by Life trimmed the Lindsey Wilson lead to 64-61. The Blue Raiders responded scoring 10 of the next 13 to increase their lead to 74-64. Lindsey Wilson ended the game going 4-of-4 from the charity stripe over the final 1:07 to secure the 85-77 victory.

Life had five players in double figures led by Cam Horton who scored a team-high 25 points. Tory Ferguson scored 14 points while Antwan Maxwell, Mike White and Jeremy Joyner had 10 points apiece.

The Blue Raiders are back in action on Thursday Feb. 6 when they travel to No. 14 Pikeville for a 7pmCT tipoff.
