Rep. Bam Carney showing signs of improvement

Larry Smith, 99.9 The Big Dawg, sends this update from the Carney family.

Kentucky House Majority Floor Leader John "Bam" Carney's doctors said the infection was better after he underwent the 5th clean out.

He has been hospitalized in intensive care with a severe case of pancreatitis and infection since the Christmas holidays and remains in Norton Hospital in Louisville.

The family's report from this weekend states his doctors, "were able to put the artificial mesh in to start closing him back up. Said the infection was better. Still some Necrosis coming out of the pancreas but it is getting better.

"The drains and antibiotics should take care of the rest of the infection. Said they will keep him more sedated the next few days to help with the mesh closing.

"Each time they do a clean out they draw blood cultures to continue to check infection.

"They did tell us that from the January 15th clean out that cultures have grown CRE bacteria, which is antibiotic resistance and can cause serious infection.

"So today as we update everyone and thank you for your continued prayers, we ask that you pray for the infectious disease doctors as they decide the best way to control this Bacteria.

"We all hope and pray that you and yours are doing fine."
