LWC Men's Basketball drops MSC game to No. 16 Cumberlands

(RV) Lindsey Wilson men's basketball fell to No. 16 Cumberlands (KY) 70-65 in a Mid-South Conference game on Saturday at Biggers Sports Center.

The Blue Raiders (13-7, 2-4 MSC) had four players in double figures led by Matthew Eldridge and Reece Brooks who had 13 points apiece. Kameron Mack and Avery Edwards each scored 10 points while Malik Hart grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

Lindsey Wilson shot just 34.9 percent from the field in the game while the Patriots (15-4, 5-1 MSC) shot 50 percent and 40.9 percent from beyond the arc. The Blue Raiders were outrebound 40-35 in the game with each team scoring 20 points in the paint.



The Blue Raiders opened the game on a 6-2 run after back-to-back three pointers by Eldridge and Brooks. Cumberlands responded scoring 11 of the next 13 points to take an 13-10 lead with 12:47 to play in the half. Lindsey Wilson jumped back into the lead at 19-15 with 7:44 left in the half after a 9-2 run. After a Patriot three cut the Blue Raider lead to 21-20, Lindsey Wilson answered with a 10-2 run increasing the lead to 31-22 with 3:12 to play in the half. Cumberlands ended the half on a 7-3 run trimming the Lindsey Wilson lead to 34-29.

Mack and Brooks led the way for the Blue Raiders with eight points each while Hart added six. Lindsey Wilson shot 41.4 percent from the field and connected on six shots from beyond the arc. Cumberlands shot 48 percent from the field and held a 21-13 advantage in rebounds.

The Patriots got out to a quick start in the second half taking the lead with an 8-0 run to lead 37-34. Payton Cundiff ended the Cumberlands run after getting fouled on a made basket and converting on the free throw to tie the game at 37. The Patriots then went on a 13-4 run to take a 50-41 lead with 11:15 to play in the game. The Blue Raiders cut the Cumberlands lead to 53-50 with 7:13 to play after a 9-3 scoring run.

The Patriots then scored five of the next seven points increasing their lead to 58-52. An Eldridge three with four minutes to play trimmed the Blue Raider deficit to 60-57. Trailing 68-59, Eldridge would connect on another shot beyond the arc cutting the deficit to 68-62 with 42 seconds left. Brooks split a pair of free throws that cut the Cumberlands lead to 68-63 with just over 30 seconds left to play. The Patriots then connected on a pair of free throws increasing their lead to 70-63. Brooks made a bucket in the closing seconds as the Blue Raiders would fall 70-65.

Tevin Olison scored a game-high 23 points while Ethan Snapp and Jahi Hinson were also in double figures with 18 and 17 points.

The Blue Raiders are back in action on Thursday, January 23 at Thomas More (Ky.) for an MSC matchup at 8 p.m. CT.
